Unfortunately, because of the pandemic we aren't able to host a 2020 VBS at our church building. But that doesn't mean we can't do anything for VBS! Welcome to "Fish Stories," our 2020 Alive! Lutheran Church VBS-at-Home!
To get started, you'll need a "Fish Stories" VBS-at-Home kit, which will contain the items you'll need for "Fish Stories" VBS-at-Home. Then, you can watch the following introduction video, "Welcome to Fish Stories VBS-at-Home."
Each day of Fish Stories VBS-at-Home has several parts: the Bible lesson, a memory verse, a song, and a snack! The Bible lessons each contain four pictures for participants to color.
Day 1 also includes the VBS craft. While you don't need to complete it on day 1, if you do it will give your craft time to dry so that you can share a picture of it by the end of Fish Stories VBS-at-Home.
We would love for you to share some of your Fish Stories VBS-at-Home experience with our congregation on our Facebook page. There will be a new post for each day of VBS-at-Home where you can reply with images from your VBS-at-Home experience. While you can participate in Fish Stories VBS-at-Home whenever you'd like, the "official" dates for VBS are August 17-20.
Lesson 1 - Fishers of Men
In lesson 1, Pastor Lieske will walk you through Matthew 4:18-22, where we hear about Jesus calling four fishermen, Peter and Andrew, James and John, to follow Him. They would be "fishers of men," through whom Jesus would work to call the whole world. In this lesson, we learn "Jesus Calls Me!"
Memory Verse 1 - Luke 19:10
Our first memory verse for our Fish Stories VBS-at-Home is found in Luke chapter 19, where Jesus tells us, "The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."
Lesson 1 Song
Here's a fun little song found on YouTube that coincides with our first Bible lesson: "I Will Make You Fishers of Men."
VBS-at-Home Craft Project
Join Miss Jessica, Chloe and Nathaniel (and Hermione the cat!) as they walk you through how to complete your Fish Stories VBS-at-Home Craft project. The materials needed for this project can be found in your Fish Stories VBS-at-Home kit.
Lesson 2 -
A Miraculous Catch of Fish
In lesson 2, Pastor Lieske will walk you through Luke 5:1-11, where we hear about Jesus providing a miraculous catch of fish. In doing so, it becomes very clear that Jesus is not simply a mere man, but that He is God made flesh dwelling among us. In this lesson, we learn "Jesus Provides For Me!"
Memory Verse 2 -
Our second memory verse for our Fish Stories VBS-at-Home is found in Matthew chapter 19, where Jesus tells us, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Lesson 2 Song
Here's a fun little song found on YouTube that coincides with our second Bible lesson: "Peter, James, and John in a Sailboat."
Lesson 3 - Walking on Water
In lesson 3, Pastor Lieske will walk you through Matthew 14:23-33. In this text, the disciples face a storm, Jesus walks upon water to meet them, Peter tries and fails to walk on water, Jesus saves Peter, and then He stills the storm. After we complete this lesson, we'll agree with the disciples, who say about Jesus, "Truly you are the Son of God." In this lesson, we learn "Jesus Saves Me!"
Memory Verse 3 - John 14:1
Our third memory verse for our Fish Stories VBS-at-Home is found in John chapter 14, where Jesus says, "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me."
Lesson 3 Song
Here's a fun little song found on YouTube that coincides with our theme for the third Bible lesson: "Jesus Saves."
Lesson 4 -
The Risen Lord Appears
In lesson 4, Pastor Lieske will walk you through John 21:2-13. In this text, several disciples set out to go fishing, but they don't have much luck. Then, the risen Lord Jesus comes to them and helps them, both by providing another miracle catch of fish but also by demonstrating once again that He truly had risen from death. In this lesson, we learn "Jesus Rose for Me!"
Memory Verse 4 -
Our fourth memory verse for our Fish Stories VBS-at-Home is found in Matthew chapter 28, where the angel says, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said."
Lesson 4 Song
Here's a fun little song found on YouTube that coincides with our theme for the fourth Bible lesson: "Christ the Lord is Risen Today."
This video will conclude our Fish Stories VBS-at-Home experience as we review our main points and remember the great things we've learned about who Jesus is and what He has done for us!
